DZEC Radyo Agila 1602

DZEC Radyo Agila (Eagle Radio) 1062 is the flagship and all-news AM station of Eagle Broadcasting Corporation (EBC). EBC is a for-profit subsidiary broadcasting network controlled by the influential religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), which is known for its “bloc voting” practices during elections.

EBC was first granted a legislative franchise allowing it to operate radio and television broadcast stations in 1967.

Radyo Agila first went on air on April 26, 1968, using a different frequency. It featured news, public affairs, entertainment, educational programs, music, and religious programs. In 1978, it was reassigned to its present frequency channel.

The network later expanded and acquired local radio stations in other parts of the country (Lucena, Dagupan, Cebu, and Davao). Eventually, it partnered with overseas agencies to broadcast via satellite to extend its reach globally.

The station has gone off-air at least twice. The first was in August 1987, after the National Telecommunications Commission ordered it to cease broadcasting due to its notoriety for airing controversial right-wing propaganda and commentary programs critical of the Corazon Aquino administration. It went back on air on January 1, 1988, this time bearing the slogan “DZEC Radyo ng Pamilya”.

In 2011, DZEC halted its transmission for a year, in the wake of Typhoon “Pedring”. It resumed airing in 2012 but only for test broadcasts with a limited feed until 10PM. It resumed full operations on April 26, 2013, in time for the 45th anniversary of EBC.

The station has rebranded several times, briefly dropping “Radyo Agila” in late 2006 and opting to use “DZEC” only, with the slogan “Ang Radyo ng Pamilya” (Radio for the Family). Two years later, it launched another slogan “Ang Himpilan ng Maligayang Tahanan” (The Station of a Happy Home).

Presently, it continues to be identified as DZEC Radyo Agila with the slogan “Mabilis. Malakas. Pumapagaspas” (Fast. Strong. Full Speed).

Based on radio listenership, measured and contained in Nielsen’s Philippine Landscape Report, DZEC ranks third among all AM radio stations in the country with an audience share of 11.70% from April to June 2023.

DZEC Radyo Agila, like EBC-owned NET25 TV, is available via live streaming on their YouTube channel.
