GMA 7

GMA 7, also known as the Kapuso Network, is the leading television station in the country in terms of ratings and revenue, after its fiercest competitor, ABS-CBN, was shut down in 2020.

The station airs on free TV channel 7 on very high frequency (VHF). The channel shows diverse programs from drama series, sitcoms, musical variety shows, infotainment, entertainment, and news and current affairs.

GMA 7’s programming may also be viewed outside the country through its official social media accounts on YouTube and Facebook, and international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV International.

An American war correspondent, Robert La Rue Stewart, founded the station in 1950 as Republic Broadcasting System. When the 1973 Constitution limited ownership of mass media to Filipino citizens, Stewart ceded control of the station to his lawyer, Felipe Gozon, Gozon’s brother-in-law Menardo Jimenez, and Marcos’ presidential assistant Gilberto Duavit, Sr.

Majority of its corporate shareholding is owned by Group Management and Development, Inc. (27.03 percent) of the Duavit family, FLG Management & Development Corporation (26.33 percent) of the Gozon family, and the Jimenez family’s M.A. Jimenez Enterprises, Inc. (15.53 percent) and Television International Corporation (11.52 percent).

Felipe Gozon has served as chair and chief executive officer of GMA Network, Inc. since while Gilberto Duavit, Jr., son of the late Gilberto Duavit, Sr., sits as its president and chief operating officer. Joel Marcelo Jimenez, second son of Menardo Jimenez is a member of the board of directors of the network.
