inquirer.net
Inquirer.net, the Philippines’ 8th most visited site according to alexa.com, started as an experiment in 1997.
It published the same articles printed on the broadsheet until it entered into a joint venture with broadcasting network GMA 7 from 2001 to 2007. The site, INQ7 interactive, aggregated information from print, TV, radio, and online.
Aside from making printed stories available on the internet, Inquirer.net produces its own news and feature stories.
Inquirer Interactive, Incorporated, which runs the website, is 70-percent owned by Inquirer Holdings, Inc. The rest of the shares belong to the broadsheet, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Inc.
Under Inquirer Holdings are several other publications. Inquirer Publications, Inc. publishes the tabloid Bandera and Cebu Daily News. The holding company eventually belongs to the Rufino-Prieto family, who also has interests in real estate.
