NET25
NET25 is a Philippine television network available both on free TV (analog and digital), through cable affiliates, and via satellite through partner agencies overseas, allowing it to reach audiences throughout the country and around the world. It boasts being the first digital broadcast TV in the Philippines and was officially launched on July 27, 2000.
It is owned and operated by Eagle Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), a for-profit subsidiary broadcasting network controlled by the influential religious group, Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).
The network was first granted a legislative franchise in 1967, which it used to operate its flagship radio station, DZEC 1064 on the AM band, which aired news and public service programs. In 1987, it expanded with the addition of an FM station. After gaining experience in radio broadcasting, the company ventured into television.
EBC acquired what is now NET25, then called UltraVision 25, from ACWS-United Broadcasting Network.
NET25 initially partnered with TechTV, and distinguished itself as the only television station “providing information and entertainment on computing, Internet, and information technology.” Alongside this content, the station aired religious programs.
In 2013, the network shifted programming as EBC launched its online news portal Eagle News PH. They aired local news and features, through a network of correspondents, as well as foreign news. It was later accredited as a media outfit in the District of Columbia, USA, and covered the 2016 US Elections.
NET25 decided to further boost its programming in 2020 to compete with other television networks, through the production of more entertainment and public affairs shows, featuring celebrities and veteran news personalities.
NET25, in its coverage of politics particularly during the 2022 elections, has been criticized as being partisan, and violating media ethics with its use of vulgar language and content that fuels hate and propaganda in news reporting.
