Super Radyo DZBB 594

Super Radyo DZBB 594 is the flagship AM radio station of GMA Network, Inc. It is a news and public affairs station, whose popular morning programs are simulcast over the network’s affiliate television station, GTV, and branded as DOBOL B TV.

The news and public affairs programs of GMA-7 and GTV are also simulcast on the radio station.

It is owned and operated by Radio GMA (RGMA) Network, Inc, an affiliate company of the largest broadcast network in the country.

DZBB, then known as simply BB radio, had its inaugural broadcast in 1950, by Robert “Uncle Bob” La Rue Stewart, founder of GMA Network. Even with scarce broadcast facilities, the station pioneered in news coverage, with breaking news, live coverage of congressional hearings, exclusive stories, and blow-by-blow accounts of major national events.

It also became a trendsetter with programs that gained a huge following like Lovingly yours, Helen and Kahapon Lamang, where letter senders would have their missives read on air, Tawag ng Tanghalan, a singing competition, Newscoop, and Kwentong Kutsero, an on-air story-telling program that taught values.

It was after the imposition of Martial Law in 1972 that Stewart was forced to sell GMA, then known as RSB, to the triumvirate of Felipe Gozon, his lawyer, Gozon’s brother-in-law, Menardo Jimenez, and Gilberto Duavit, Sr.

The station would eventually rebrand as Bisig Bayan to keep the double “B” name, and changed its format to news and public affairs in 1989, with hard-hitting broadcasters given their own commentary shows.

Since 1999, the station, which had always been among the most-listened in the country, would take on the brand Super Radyo, which it retains until today.

Its roster of broadcasters continue to provide news and commentaries that keep its competitors on their toes, and according to Nielsen’s Philippine Media Landscape Report of 2022, it has an audience share of 31.16%.
